<binEng> hey
<smkl> hello
<binEng> I'm looking for more books to buy ;)
-:- rau [mbalazs@server-gw-1.phos.server.ro] has joined #tunes
<rau> hi!
<binEng> hi
<abi> hoy, binEng
<rau> that's all? :)
<binEng> all what?
10:50am
<rau> talking.
<binEng> unless you stand for some talking, yes
<binEng> you could always tell me of some great book you think I should buy, when I'm now at it.
<rau> allright, lets talk :) I just thought you have some discussion going on already...
<rau> books... you can't find any good books where I live, and I hate amazon.com :)
<rau> but the Net has some good resources, too.
<binEng> I guess... I'm shopping at another net store. They have lowered prize today
<rau> I've been never shopping on the net. I just don't like it.
11:00am
<rau> But I saw some places where you could read books online.
<binEng> I don't *pay* over the net... I find it convenient, there's no well-sorted bookstore here around.
<binEng> abi: sicp?
<abi> it has been said that sicp is Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs at http://mitpress.mit.edu/sicp/
<rau> i've been on the tunes webpage sometimes, but I still don't know what Tunes is.. Or what will it be...
<binEng> well, not many know that
<rau> not many? it's so secret? :) who knows it?
<binEng> it's not entirely clear, that's why
<rau> i have an os project too. but it has somewhat alt concepts that tunes does. or who knows? ;-)
<binEng> yeah :)
<binEng> so, what's your project?
11:10am
<rau> it's something like LittleOS.. members.xoom.com/rau/phos/ if you want to read about it..
<binEng> I'll have a look. Soon.

11:20am
<rau> you asked for books... i heared that someone had said that Uresh Vahalia: Unix internals, the new frontiers (hmm something like that) is a good book..
<binEng> uhu
-:- smkl [sami@MLXXXVII.rdyn.saunalahti.fi] has joined #tunes
<rau> now you tell me what can I find on the net... ;-)
<binEng> What are you looking for, then?
<rau> something good... something about oses.
<binEng> http://www.osopinion.com/index.html
<rau> os design? :)
<binEng> not really...
11:30am
<rau> i know one.
<rau> www.tunes.org/Review/OSes.html :)
<binEng> I know *that* one too
<rau> did you hear about bochs?
<binEng> hear what, do you mean
<rau> do you know what it is? :)
<binEng> vaguely, yes... ok very vaguely. ok, I've just heard the name :)
<rau> it's a really cool thing. it can emulate an i386, and it includes a debugger, so you can debug everything: task switching, mode switching... it rocks!
<binEng> under UNIX, that is, right?
<rau> under macintosh, unix, windows. what you want. but it's too slow for using it to run programs.. if you want that, take vmware!
<binEng> ic
11:40am
<rau> vmware is a pentium virtual machine. it can run win95 ot nt under linux, with almost on a native speed of your cpu.
<binEng> cool
<rau> and it's free. and i can't get running it. BTW can you help me in linux questions?
<binEng> sorry, no. I have not much experience with Linux.

<smokey`> hi
<smokey`> hows it going?
<rau> it's the only thing I have at home, but I have a lot more to learn.. ok, i have to go now. bye!

<binEng> hi smokey`
<smokey`> I think i'm lagged
<smokey`> hi binEng
>>> smkl [sami@MLXXXVII.rdyn.saunalahti.fi] requested PING 924891328 343445 from #tunes
<smokey`> I found this channel on the #tunes homepage
<smokey`> the OS ...
<binEng> welcome, then
<smokey`> I'm really interested in this OS
<binEng> Not an OS, really.
<smokey`> really? What is it then?
<smokey`> ..
<binEng> Argh, not those hard questions. :) Tunes is more looking at how computing systems can be improved, which includes more than just the OS.
<binEng> But I'm not really a member of Tunes.
<smokey`> oh
<smokey`> thats cool
<smokey`> I was wondering if I could ask a few questions....
<binEng> could maybe become... or not
<binEng> you could always _ask_...
<smokey`> I have a 486 laptop, 16 megs memory, 300 HD, 16 colours, mouse... all I use it for is writing. Windows isn't good (doesn't look nice, crashes a lot) :)
11:50am
<binEng> I could imagine
<binEng> so it does for me too
<smokey`> and I need a good OS that can let me write, (I'm going through a fase where I need it to look good)
<smokey`> are there screen shots for tunes?
<binEng> Tunes barely has any code yet, and won't be fininished for a looong time. If you're looking for a working OS, Tunes isn't what you're after.
<smokey`> oh.. .
<smokey`> hmm.. ok
<smokey`> any ideas for an OS ? :)
<binEng> me? ideas?
<smokey`> heheh
<binEng> now, do you mean... choice of OS for you, or ideas in general?
<smokey`> for me
<smokey`> a choice of an OS that looks cool, and can use an awesome word processor with it
<binEng> I dunno... Linux, not that good-looking is it? BeOS? Would that work? It looks alright, at least.
<smokey`> hm.. k, i'll check 'em out
